Hi!
I’m Denise Padín Collazo and welcome to my new website.
I grew up in Castroville, California. As a young person, I got involved in the fight for justice in this country. Along the way, I have had many experiences as the first Latina to raise a family and have a career in community organizing at the Faith in Action national network.
I’ve been a community organizer (which is like being a civil rights lawyer who elevates the leadership of everyday people to make the most of their wisdom and power). I’ve partnered with some of the U.S.’s most courageous leaders to center the dignity of every person by making health care, housing, schools, and laws more accessible to families.
That’s what has motivated me to write my upcoming book Thriving in the Fight: A Survival Manual for Latinas on the Front Lines of Change. I felt inspired to write the book to tell Latinas and all women of color these things:
We need 100% of your brilliance and creativity in order to confront the threats that face our children and families. In the book, I share the ups, the downs, the wins, the losses and the ways the people and work of the movement for social change have transformed my life.
The Thriving in the Fight Advisory Board and I have been working to share the message of how important it is to not just stay in the fight, not just survive in the fight, but to thrive in the fight for social, economic, racial and political change.
I encourage you to take a glance at my new and improved website and let me know what you think!
Blessings and love,
